YOUNG CHINESE PIANO MAESTRO TO MAKE DEBUT APPEARANCE IN EMIRATE FOR ABU DHABI CLASSICS CONCERT SEASON

17th Nov

Chinese classical pianist Ran Jia, regarded as one of the world’s most thrilling young soloists, is set to perform in Abu Dhabi for the first time this week.

The 26-year-old will play at the sumptuous Abu Dhabi Suite at The St. Regis Abu Dhabi on the evening of the 18th November following an invitation from Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi).

She has chosen a programme inspired by her deep understanding of music and arts with the highlights including Ravel’s ‘Sonatine’ and Wagner’s deeply visual and philosophical ‘Death of Isolde’. She will also play music composed by Schubert, Chopin, Wagner and Liszt.

Ahead of her visit to Abu Dhabi, she said: “I am very much looking forward to bringing to the audience in Abu Dhabi pieces from some of my favourite composers. My goal will be to render Schubert’s heavenly tenderness, Ravel’s delicate melancholy, Wagner and Liszt’s musical expression of the ultimate feeling towards life and death. I am also thrilled to play Chopin of course who for me is the greatest piano composer ever. I can’t wait to be moved together with the audience and to share all the magic music is able to display.”

Jia began playing the piano at the age of three and made her debut solo performance in 1995. She studied with Gary Graffman at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philidelphia and is currently enrolled at the International Piano Academy Lake Como in Italy, studying under maestro William Nabore.

Praised by the international press for her “elegant touch”, “pure aesthetics” and “powerful skill”, she has earned worldwide recognition for her talent with Nabore, the director of the International Piano Academy Lake Como, saying “Ran Jia is one of the finest pianists of her generation. She has qualities that are as rare as precious on the music scene today: poetry and artistry. She is a phenomenal artist.”

Jia has performed in many of the world’s most esteemed music halls and conservatories with sold-out performances throughout Europe, North America, China, South Korea and Hong Kong.

Her recent performances include concerts at the Shanghai International Piano Festival, ‘MISA’ Summer festival Shanghai, the Kumho Art Hall in Seoul, Korea, Chicago Myra Hess Series, USA, Franz Liszt Festival at Grottammare, Italy and the Albert Konzerte series in Freiburg, Germany. She also made a recording of two Schubert sonatas under French Label Artalinna, released worldwide this year.

The concert is by invitation only.
