Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) is welcoming people from across the UAE to visit its official Pavilion at Abu Dhabi Art 2015, to celebrate the excellence of Emirati visual art. Alongside a series of educational talks, tours and sessions at Abu Dhabi Art between November 18 – 21, ADMAF will demonstrate its commitment to the national visual arts sector through its most recent award-winning publication The Art of the Emirates.
The Art of the Emirates, released in June 2015, offers an overview of the national visual arts sector today and features the people who helped shape it. Filled with in-depth interviews, portraits and artworks, this publication offers an insight into a wide range of artists, galleries, foundations and universities, including Fatma Lootah, Khawla Darwish, Khalid Shafar, Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Mohammed Al Astad, Abdul Rahim Salem, and the Chairman of the Emirates Fine Arts Society Nasser Abdullah. Visitors can also win a copy of The Art of the Emirates by participating in a competition at the ADMAF Pavilion.
In early November 2015, HH Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, bestowed upon The Art of the Emirates, the 2015 Sharjah International Book Fair Award for Emirati Foreign Translated Book.
H.E. Hoda I. Al Khamis-Kanoo, Founder of the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation, said: The ADMAF Pavilion at this year’s Abu Dhabi Art presents our latest award-winning publication, The Art of the Emirates. ADMAF has been nurturing the national visual arts sector of the UAE since 1996. We believe in the strength of soft power. Sheikh Zayed said that a country is measured by the achievements of its people. Our book, The Art of the Emirates, tells the dynamic, creative story of the guardians of creativity and knowledge - Emirati artists, galleries, foundations and universities - and explores their impact on society in their own words. They have all been instrumental in building a confidence that reaches out and enables the young to generate innovative ideas of their own with passion and determination. Ideas that will make a difference and drive progress. The supreme value of a nation lies in its culture. The Art of the Emirates reveals this truth.”
Throughout the duration of Abu Dhabi Art 2015, ADMAF will present a fascinating programme to inspire and inform. ADMAF Tours led by artists and representatives of art institutions featured in The Art of the Emirates will visit the fair, examining the context of a selection of the artworks on display. ADMAF Stories will see Emirati artists from The Art of the Emirates talk about their artistic practice, including the challenges and opportunities faced along the way. The ADMAF Art Review welcomes young Emirati artists to share their portfolios and discuss their work on a one-on-one basis. Ask ADMAF is a chance for visitors to speak to ADMAF staff and find out about the Foundation’s range of initiatives and support available for Emirati artists.
Following Abu Dhabi Art, ‘Keswa’, the winning work of The 2015 Christo and Jeanne-Claude Award, will be on display at Mushrif Park, Abu Dhabi, between November 28 and December 12. In addition, visitors to The Galleria will also be able to explore The Art Of The Emirates through lightboxes across the mall, between November 6 and January 6.
