28th Sep

Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashed Al Maktoom , Vice president, Prime Minister, Ruler of Dubai  was born the  July 15, 1949 in the Al Maktoom in the family house in Shindagha, near the famous Dubai Creek. Sheikh Mohammed is the third among the sons of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoom .  The other brothers are: his Highness late Sheikh Maktoom, Sheikh Hamdan, and Sheikh Ahmed.

Sheikh Mohammed lived a happy childhood with his parents   Sheikh Rashid and Sheikha Latifa and his grandfather His Highness Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoom Al Maktoom, Ruler of Dubai, with all the kindness and caring, and he was surrounded by the interrelated family.

The October 7, 1990, the family Al Maktoum, Dubai and the United Arab Emirates have been shocked by the death of Sheikh Rashid after a long struggle with the disease.  The 4 January 1995 Dubai and the UAE woke up on the news of an important issue in Arabic and English headlines.   The previous day, the ruler of Dubai Sheikh Maktoom had promulgated two decrees tracing the future of the Dubai. The first is       the appointment of Sheikh Mohammed as Crown Prince of the Emirate of Dubai, while the second decree making   Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Deputy Governor of the emirate.

The fourth of January of 2006, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum became the Ruler of Dubai following the death of the late Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, during a visit to Australia. On the fifth of January, the members of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates have selected His Highness Sheikh Muhammad as Vice President of the United Arab Emirates.

In the eleventh of February of 2006, he was nominated by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates as prime minister. The Council adopted his candidacy.  Sheikh Mohammed is the embodiment of active and successful leadership; he realized what he promised, he insisted on excellence and knew the role of leader and the tool to perfection.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid is a real poet: Sheikh Mohammed began writing poetry when he was young at school. He says that his poetic talent  was  influenced by his father the late His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the late His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. In his youth, when he was traveling with his father, Sheikh Rashid, Sheikh Mohammed was often accompanied by some anthologies of poetry (and indicates that Al Mutanabi and Abu Tammam were for him the best classical  poets)  reading their poetry during the flight; which has increased his  poetic

Knowledge and culture.

When the poems of Sheikh Mohammed first published in newspapers, they appeared under pseudonyms as – Nadawi  ,Saleet , because he was keen that people honestly think  that his poetry is good, and that newspapers do not publish his poems because he is a Sheikh in the ruling family. He received early encouragement of the famous Arab poet – Fatat Al Arab - when she praised him in a response to one of the first of his poems, which means an honor for a novice poet. Today Sheikh Mohammed acquired a font –line position on a large scale as one of the leading pioneers of poetry, and his works are published by his real name.  The books of his poems have been published in English, entitled "Poems from the Desert" - bestselling books for more than two years.

The   poetry has enabled Sheikh Muhammad to reveal his creative talents of the delicate character. That side did not get the opportunity to show up and appear like his capacities in the political field. Sheikh Mohammed poems deal with  diverse topics; starting with passion and love  poems such as "symbol of love" – and the lover deprived in his poem "The Promise" , then he was dealing with current affairs; to write   a poem about an important event  few hours of its occurrence, such as his poem "to the spirit of the martyr child Mohammed al-Dura the Palestinian child , who was killed  near the crossing point in Gaza City on the thirtieth of September of 2000, and the camera crew filmed the incident and displayed it all over the world.   Many of his poems give the reader an insight into his philosophy, such as:

The day is so precious and most expensive while the nights counter it-    if that becomes eternal nobody can live it.

So precious like Pearls too difficult to get them. If that was cheap it will not be decorating ladies necks.

Even if spring time has long duration, people will not long to see it again.

It is a Long absence-

Who is struggling to restore his rights will triumph

My soul to redeem Al Aqsa holy place.

Sheikh Mohammed in his poetry tends to deal with public events, including personal matters. As Sheikh Mohammed said: "The themes closest to my heart are the ones closest to the people." Hence, he wrote a lot of poems about Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum; praising the wise leadership of the United Arab Emirates.

There are many symbolic themes recur in the poetry of Sheikh Mohammed; As one would expect from Emirati poet, the Sahara closer to his heart. He has said that the desert has taught him "patience and perseverance" These two features stand out in his poems, as one can see in his poem "You the patient - patience became so long." The sea was   repeated in his poems as a symbol such as:

“Your waves are strong and I am drowning in the seas depth. The wildlife in the region had a poetic part of Sheikh Mohammed poetry. Deer are commonly used in Arabic literature as a symbol of beauty:

“Terrified Ghazal is a common term ", as the falcon named free hawk is used as a symbol of beauty as in the eye such as free falcon.

Although it is   used as a symbol of courage and power: "You, my Horr dating back to falconry, you never attack without blood".

In an effort to spread awareness of the cultural heritage of the nation; Sheikh Mohammed participated in a number of poetic contests with other senior poets in the region, including Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Khalid bin Faisal of Al Saud. In these contests, each poet responds to the other by a written or oral poems.  Sheikh Mohammed in a comment at these contest said: "The people highly estimate this kind of poetic art; it incites the spirit of competition among poets. I support and encourage this art; it consolidates communication among the poets."

In the Other hand, Sheikh Mohammed tried to encourage others to write the Nabati popular poetry through his quizzes; as the poem includes many questions, in contrast to Western traditional single-line puzzle, and calls on people to try to solve them. However, they must send their solutions in the form of poems to match the original poem of Sheikh Mohammed style. A valuable award is given for each of the winner work solving the puzzle.  Many have responded from Arab countries with these puzzles; as more than 12,000 replies to the fifth puzzle contest.

Sheikh Mohammed has already excelled in a wide range of poetry and still writing verses at the appropriate times. H.H cares too much that people remember him not only as the leader and Knight; but with his cultural heritage as well.
